If I’m going to rank the many JoJo Stands (starting with “Stardust Crusaders”), I want to do it my way. My convoluted, mildly autistic way.
I’m not just looking at how “powerful” a Stand is, or even take into account the six skill categories shown in every episode (the ones scored A to E) – I’ll use my own categories based on what I personally saw, and give a definitive score out of ten for each:
POWER = Strength, speed, agility etc.
RANGE = How far the Stand reaches
INTELLIGENCE (INT.) = How clever the user is
DESIGN = Pure aesthetics, how it looks
COOL = Would I want it as my Stand?
Before we begin, you can check out some of my related blog posts below:
33 – Knhum (Oingo)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 5 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 14 |
A lot of the overall scores coming up were quite close together, but one Stand fell a good few points behind the pack.
The lamest Stand of all has to be Knhum – Oingo’s face-morphing Stand. It’s weak, only applies to himself, looks silly, and Knhum acted like an idiot for the whole of his episode. An easy last place.
32 – Tenore Sax (Kenny G.)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 1 | 9 | 2 | 5 | 2 | 19 |
Did Tenore Sax get more time in the spotlight in the Manga? Because in the anime he came across as an utter joke.
His Range seems quite high on account of creating a mass mirage, but otherwise he seemed like the weakest Stand of all time.
31 – Empress (Nena)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 6 | 1 | 5 | 4 | 5 | 21 |
If Empress had attached itself to a human, it would have easily won. If it attached itself to an average Stand user, it would have easily lost. The only reason there was a fight at all was because it attached to Joseph – one of the weakest Stand users.
It has a tiny range, a globular Design, and it got outsmarted quite comfortably. I think I’d rather have no Stand at all than Empress.
30 – Sethan (Alessi)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 22 |
Is Sethan a powerful Stand? Yeah, I suppose so. Its ability to turn opponents into babies would make for an easy victory … but at what cost?
If the only way you can win is by fighting babies, maybe it’s time to hang up the gloves.
29 – Dark Blue Moon (Imposter Captain Tennile)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 4 | 7 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 24 |
That’s all of the outright “Bad” Stands out the way, so let’s trudge through all of the “Meh” ones.
Dark Blue Moon seems like a pretty deadly Stand … but only if the opponent is in water. That’s way too specific for it to be viable (and Star Platinum, a land-based Stand, beat it without too much hassle).
28 – Ebony Devil (Devo the Cursed)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 5 | 4 | 6 | 5 | 5 | 25 |
Good episode filled with tension. Underwhelming Stand.
You have to hope Ebony Devil catches its opponent unprepared, as otherwise it’s in for a beating in open combat.
27 – Tower of Gray (Gray Fly)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 5 | 8 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 26 |
The first real enemy Stand of “Stardust Crusaders”, so it’s no surprise Tower of Gray was pretty weak.
It zips around quickly and used its setting to its advantage, but otherwise it was a mere stepping stone for Jotaro and his crew.
This is a good time to explain the high Range stat – since Tower of Gray can get from A to B in record time, I count that as having a high “Range”. Star Platinum, by comparison, is super quick but only has a range of a few metres unless Jotaro physically moves. Hopefully this explains some of my skewed Range scores moving forwards!
26 – Hermit Purple (Joseph Joestar)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 2 | 6 | 8 | 5 | 5 | 26 |
I love Joseph. He’s one of my favourite JoJo protagonists, and his quick wit and Hamon powers are legendary. His Stand Power, however, is far from impressive.
Hermit Purple is one of the weakest Stands in the series. It works well when paired with other Stands, regularly providing information or tying opponents in place, but on its own it lacks a punch.
25 – Sun (Arabia Fats)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 27 |
On the other end of the spectrum, Sun is an incredibly powerful Stand that was used in such an underwhelming way.
The episode dedicated to it is really boring, and it’s an egregious case of a “one-trick pony”. You spawn it in the sky, and wait. I’d rather have most other Stands.
24 – Tohth (Boingo)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 1 | 4 | 8 | 7 | 27 |
Okay, hear me out – Tohth came across as one of the most ridiculous / comedic Stands in the series, and yet I thought it was one of the coolest.
A uniquely-rendered comic book that predicts the future with absolute certainty? Sign me up!
23 – Wheel of Fortune (ZZ)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 29 |
It’s a car. Wheel of Fortune is literally a car. A formidable car, don’t get me wrong, but a car nonetheless. Pretty forgettable.
22 – Anubis
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 3 | 6 | 7 | 5 | 29 |
Anubis is a noteable Stand in that it has no specific user. In fact, this Stand is far more a curse than a blessing. Still powerful though (and “cursed sword” is a pretty badass trope).
21 – Strength (Forever)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 8 | 3 | 4 | 6 | 30 |
We’ve reached a turning point in the ranking where the Stands are actually quite good, and I’d be happy to be in possession of the majority of them.
Forever the monkey has the power to manifest an entire ship and bend the vessel to its will. How cool is that! It’s a shame, therefore, such an incredible power was bestowed upon a pervy monkey.
20 – Emperor (Hol Horse)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 9 | 4 | 4 | 6 | 30 |
Like how Wheel of Fortune was literally a car, Emperor is just a gun. A cool gun with agile bullets, but still a gun.
The Range and Power speak for themselves, so its a shame Hol Horse came across as such an incompetent buffoon.
19 – Lovers (Steely Dan)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 1 | 8 | 6 | 7 | 30 |
I’m bending my own Range rules a little for this one – while Lovers is extremely quick and can cover a large distance quickly, I’d say it has a small Range because it only works effectively when millimetres away from its target.
The ability to inflict pain on someone from within seems hella powerful, though, so Lovers still ended on a respectable point tally.
18 – The Fool (Iggy)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 5 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 31 |
If it wasn’t for Iggy’s standalone episode (and some of the fight against Vanilla Ice) proving he had a working brain, I would’ve happily given this misbehaving mutt an Intelligence score of 1.
The Fool’s sand-shifting ability is pretty good, but it was never going to compete against the big boys.
17 – Horus (Pet Shop)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 8 | 4 | 7 | 6 | 32 |
Iggy’s fearsome foe in their standalone episode, and by my estimation it was a pretty close match-up.
Pet Shop wasn’t as Intelligent as Iggy, but its Stand Horus could pack an icy punch from long distances.
16 – Judgement (Cameo)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 6 | 8 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 32 |
Judgement isn’t necessarily the strongest Stand (the only reason it gave Polnareff trouble was because he was freaking out), but it’s fairly consistent across all categories.
The Intelligence score was almost higher, but Polnareff and Avdol made Cameo look a right fool at the end of the episode.
15 – Yellow Temperance (Rubber Soul)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 3 | 7 | 6 | 7 | 32 |
Yellow Temperance is one of those Stands that makes you think “Have they introduced one of the powerful boss Stands this early in the series?”
Its skin imitating / dissolving Power is an absolute joke, and Rubber Soul was a pretty manipulative user too.
14 – Death Thirteen (Mannish Boy)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 8 | 32 |
How do you quantify the Range of a dream Stand? Do you give it a 10/10 since its immense Power is exerted in a whole universe of its own creation? Or do you give a low score like I did because Mannish Boy had to fall asleep right next to his targets for it to work?
Death Thirteen was one of the coolest Stands in the series, and if it wasn’t for Kakyoin getting lucky it would have been unstoppable.
13 – High Priestess (Midler)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 9 | 5 | 5 | 6 | 33 |
Is it just me, or is High Priestess an all-round better version of The Fool?
It can blend into and change any surface, not just sand, and Midler operated it from a very long way away. The only drawback is how ugly it looks.
12 – Magician’s Red (Muhammad Avdol)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 6 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 33 |
What Avdol’s Magician’s Red lacks in Power it makes up for in consistency.
Its flame abilities were useful in a pinch, and who wouldn’t want a badass firehawk as a Stand?
11 – Hanged Man (J. Geil)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 7 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 33 |
A mirror-dancing Stand would be deadly in the right hands, so it’s a shame J. Geil never really used his brain.
10 – Silver Chariot (Jean Pierre Polnareff)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 5 | 7 | 6 | 8 | 33 |
I’m surprised Silver Chariot made it into the top ten of this ranking. Polnareff was my favourite character in “Stardust Crusaders”, but I didn’t think his Stand was overly powerful.
In fairness to the Frenchman, Silver Chariot demonstrated reasonable Power and Intelligence at points. Oh, and an armour-clad warrior is one of the coolest Stands I can think of.
9 – Bastet (Mariah)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 10 | 7 | 3 | 6 | 35 |
Mariah’s Bastet is a case of extremes – in terms of Range and Power, Joseph and Avdol can consider themselves lucky to get out of the confrontation alive.
Mariah’s intelligence score is knocked slightly for standing in the middle of two magnets, and the power socket is easily one of the worst, most inane Stand Designs in the series.
8 – Atum (Telence T. D’Arby, “The Player”)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 10 | 4 | 9 | 6 | 7 | 36 |
The weaker, less memorable of the two D’Arby brothers – although Telence’s Stand acts in much the same way as Daniel’s.
Atum is an insta-kill Stand so long as the conditions are met, and Telence is a very Intelligent foe. Comparatively, however, the videogame focus wasn’t as Cool as straight-up gambling.
7 – The World (DIO)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 10 | 3 | 7 | 6 | 10 | 36 |
The World is, without a doubt, the coolest Stand in “Stardust Crusaders”. Its Power is unbelievable when you first see what it can do, and DIO screaming “ZA WARUDO!!!” is extremely entertaining.
So what holds it back from the very top spot? Its Range is limited, for starters, its Design is good but nothing special, and DIO got mentally outclassed by Jotaro at every turn.
6 – Hierophant Green (Noriaki Kakyoin)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 7 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 6 | 37 |
You wouldn’t think it on surface-level, but Hierophant Green is actually one of the strongest Stands in the season.
Kakyoin’s Intelligence makes him a force to be reckoned with in every scenario, and his Stand’s Power and Range are nothing to be scoffed at.
5 – Justice (Enya the Hag)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 8 | 7 | 8 | 7 | 38 |
Considering it was Enya who taught DIO about Stands in the first place, it’s no surprise her own Stand is one of the strongest.
Justice’s smoke-puppeteering ability is OP if the right conditions are met, and the foggy, skeletal Design is really Cool.
4 – Geb (N’Doul)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 8 | 9 | 8 | 6 | 7 | 38 |
The first enemy Stand the team encountered when arriving in Egypt, and in hindsight Geb was one of their toughest foes.
It has incredible Range, deadly Power, and N’Doul seemed to be an Intelligent, calculating user.
3 – Osiris (Daniel J. D’Arby, “The Gambler”)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 10 | 4 | 10 | 6 | 8 | 38 |
A Cool, insta-kill Stand with an unbelievably Intelligent User? The Stardust Crusaders should count their blessings after walking away unscathed …
Daniel J. D’Arby was the biggest mental challenge of the season, bar none, and his gambling Stand could’ve easily claimed the entire team if he’d held his nerve.
2 – Star Platinum (Jotaro Kujo)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 10 | 4 | 9 | 7 | 9 | 39 |
You always hope that the protagonist of a show or movie is one of its most powerful characters, but Star Platinum’s Power could be an utter joke at times.
Jotaro was no slouch in the Intelligence department either, and once Star Platinum gained time-stopping abilities it was game over for any other Stand user.
1 – Cream (Vanilla Ice)
| POWER | RANGE | INT. | DESIGN | COOL | TOTAL |
| 9 | 8 | 8 | 9 | 9 | 43 |
Only two enemy Stands have the distinction of killing a Stardust Crusader – DIO got Kakyoin, but his henchman Vanilla Ice claimed both Iggy and Avdol’s lives!
Needless to say, Cream is one of the most unfairly powerful Stands in the series. It zips around at lightning speed, its Design is awesome, and its void-like attack is borderline unstoppable.
Aaaaand that’s my list! You can check out some of my latest blog posts below:

For the first time in my life, I stayed up until 4 a.m. to watch The Game Awards – mostly in support of my favourite game this year “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”. You can imagine how happy I am that it won the most trophies in Game Awards history! This game won nine (!!!) awards…

I waxed lyrical about “The House in Fata Morgana” when I ranked its Doors, and now I’m desperate to rank its characters. This story has done nothing but occupy my mind ever since I finished it. I can’t rank every named character in the story as some of them are just “Man” and “Man 2”,…
