If there’s one thing every single JoJo fan on earth can agree on, it’s that the villains are a bunch of charismatic, evil mofos.
Each Part had a villain that was memorable for one reason or other … but how would I rank them all?

OK
6 – Dio (Phantom Blood)
To be clear, I’ve separated the “Phantom Blood” and “Stardust Crusaders” versions of Dio because I feel the two have differences in terms of presentation and character.
My least favourite villain of the series comes from what I believe to be the weakest Part – “Phantom Blood”. Dio is definitely one of the best aspects of the Part, however. His rivalry with Jonathan is great, and his unabashedly evil persona is deliciously camp.
But, since he’s the villain of the first Part, he’s incredibly underwritten. His personality boils down to “I’m evil!” and “I must be better than Jonathan!“, and once he turns into a vampire-creature-thingy he takes a long off-screen break during Jonathan’s Hamon training.
When I think of the best moments in “Phantom Blood”, Dio is the driving force behind all of them. It’s a shame there aren’t that many of them to begin with.
Good
5 – Kars and the Pillar Men (Battle Tendency)
The Pillar Men, specifically Kars, were a slight improvement from the first Part’s antagonists. Their evilness had a bit more depth, first of all, and their interactions with each other made for some fun scenes.
More so than Dio (at least for “Phantom Blood”), Kars felt like a truly malicious force that was destined to destroy the world unless our heroes put a stop to him. Ultimate Kars in particular was deadly, but he had the same problems as Dio in that he became stereotypically evil.
Great
4 – Dio (Stardust Crusaders)
Maybe I’m in the minority, but when I think of Dio I immediately think of his world-stopping stint from “Stardust Crusaders”.
The extended, globe-trotting story of the Part lends itself well to building him up as this impossible force of nature that has amassed a loyal army to do his bidding, and when you meet him he’s just as delightfully dastardly as in “Phantom Blood”.
His control over Jonathan’s body, his ability to stop time, his hundred-year-old arrogance and his new outfit are why this is the definitive version of Dio.
3 – Father Pucci (Stone Ocean)
I’ve seen a lot of people call Pucci “overrated” and “one of the worst JoJo villains”. Maybe that’s because he’s a follower of Dio? Or because he wins in the end? Or because Stone Ocean in general is quite controversial?
Either way, I really liked him as the prime antagonist. His mission to achieve heaven drove his every action, and I loved how ruthless he was in his crusade. The fact he won in the end too also made him a truly formidable foe.
Amazing
2 – Diavolo (Golden Wind)
There’s such a great mystery surrounding Diavolo in the first half of “Golden Wind”. Who’s the mob boss? Why does he want to find his daughter? What’s his real name? Why is he so elusive?
When Doppio and all his eccentricities were first introduced, I genuinely didn’t suspect that he could be the infamous mob boss. It ended up being a really great twist – and seeing Diavolo’s powers in action were always a highlight of the Part.
1 – Yoshikage Kira (Diamond Is Unbreakable)
Rarely do we see villains with as much charisma and swag as Yoshikage Kira.
His eccentricities made him a scene-stealer from the moment we met him, and it was clear this was a man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Kira was exactly what a memorable villain should be – wicked, motivated and larger-than-life.
