Hades – Every God Ranked

I recently fought my way out of the Underworld for the second time, racking up over two-hundred runs across my two playthroughs, so it’s fair to say I’ve used every boon in Hades by this point.

I’ll be ranking the nine Olympian Gods based on the boons they give you (in other words, their personality isn’t considered). Every God has useful boons depending on your build, so this will be tricky – well done Supergiant for nailing that balance!

Before we begin, you can check out some of my related blog posts below:

9 – Dionysus

As I said before, none of the Gods give you bad boons per se – in fact, a lot of Dionysus’s boons are quite useful. “Strong Drink” improves fountains, “Premium Vintage” is a free bottle of Nectar, and his boons that mitigate damage at low health – as well as heal you after encounters – were life-saving.

Despite all this praise, Dionysus was the God I chose least. Why? Because his Hangover effect and his Cast “Festive Fog” are among the weakest in the game, and I didn’t want to risk using up my Attack, Special, Cast or Dash slots when the other Gods all had better boons and status effects.

8 – Demeter

Demeter is the other Olympian God I didn’t choose all that often – a shame, really, since she’s introduced last so I thought she’d be the most powerful.

She has a great Attack boon that automatically comes with the Chilled effect, but she has one of the worst Casts and easily the weakest selection of secondary boons.

7 – Poseidon

From here on out, I used each of these Gods a lot depending on what weapon and build I was running at the time.

Poseidon’s “Tidal Dash” is effectively a free ticket through the Satyr tunnels, and his secondary boons aren’t half bad, but I didn’t usually like the knock-away effects of his Attack / Special / Cast – my favourite weapons were all short-range, so I needed my enemies to remain close by!

If I was ranking these Gods based on how fun their Calls were to use, Poseidon would easily grab the top spot.

6 – Ares

Ares was a hard God to rank – his Doom effect could sometimes be game-breakingly OP, but other times it was too slow and didn’t do enough relative damage.

His Cast and Dash are also an acquired taste, and the other boons tended to be boring stat increases like +10% damage – useful, but the boons that change gameplay are always the most fun.

5 – Zeus

I used to have Zeus among the bottom three of this ranking, but recently I’ve had a bit of a Lightning God renaissance.

The bouncing lightning when combined with the Jolted effect can be really OP with the right weapons, and most of his secondary boons like “Quick Reflexes” that shoot even more lightning are no-brainers.

4 – Aphrodite

We’ve now reached the tier of Olympian Gods that I went back to again and again, because I knew they wouldn’t let me down (for the most part).

More often than not I found myself using Aphrodite’s Attack boon because of its massive damage and auto-Weak effect, and her Call and Cast were really fun to use too. She has some good secondary boons that help with health upgrades and crowd control, but a better selection would’ve made her rank higher.

3 – Hermes

Whenever I see rankings or tier lists of Hades Gods, Hermes always seems to be near the bottom. Were we playing the same game?!?

His boons that make you move faster, attack faster and have better dodge luck were the difference between success and failure on multiple runs, and his money-making boons were a bonus too.

2 – Artemis

Artemis was actually the toughest God to rank of all. On the one hand she was hardly my go-to God for the initial boons, but she was almost always a God I ended up visiting once or twice per run.

Why? Because her critical effects can absolutely shred bosses in the right builds, and some of her secondary boons that further increase critical chance / damage and fire secondary arrows made destroying the Underworld a romp.

1 – Athena

Athena was always going to be the number one spot. Easiest decision of my life. I have one word for you – Deflect.

It’s pretty much game over for the Underworld once you get “Divine Dash”, and all of her other deflecting and Exposing boons make Zagreus an invincible killing machine. You can always trust the Goddess of Wisdom to guide you right.

Aaaaaand that’s my list. You can check out some of my latest blog posts below:
