After five full seasons on the air, The Office started to show some cracks in its sixth season. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the golden age of the show is long gone by this point.
That’s not to say I didn’t laugh at some of these episodes … just that I didn’t for a fair few of them. How would I rank them all?
Before we begin, you can check out some of my related blog posts below:
24 – The Banker
Rating: D-
Other than the fact Gale from Breaking Bad is the titular banker, there is nothing of note in this episode.
The HR-evaluation is a unique spin on a clip show episode, I’ll give them that, but this is still going to go down as one of the worst Office episodes.
23 – Koi Pond
Rating: C-
The office make fun of Michael after he falls into a koi pond, but tensions flare when it’s revealed that Jim let him fall.
Pam and Andy also do a joint-sale and have to pretend to be a couple. Both plotlines are pretty boring, but it’s criminal that the scene of Michael actually struggling in the koi pond got cut.
22 – Sabre
Rating: C
“Sabre” is one of those bridging episodes that sets up a new status quo, so on its own it’s quite boring.
We meet Gabe, Christian Slater does a corporate video, and Jim walks in on the nursery manager in the toilet.
21 – The Promotion
Rating: C
Pam goes around the office asking for wedding cash, and Jim fights Michael over how to distribute the raises.
“The Promotion” would’ve been second-last if not for the touching final scene of Michael appreciating Jim as a managerial shoulder to cry on.
20 – St. Patrick’s Day
Rating: C
Dwight makes a mega desk, Darryl gets promoted, and Jo forces everyone to work overtime. Nothing too special.
19 – Mafia
Rating: C
Michael thinking that a salesman is from the mafia is one of the stupidest plotlines so far, but I don’t hate it.
They order the gabagool, and meanwhile Kevin uses Jim’s office and gets his credit card declined.
18 – The Cover-Up
Rating: C
Michael sends Dwight to spy on his girlfriend Donna, and eventually finds out that she already has a husband.
Andy also tries to expose the Sabre printer defects, kicking off the arc for the rest of the season.
17 – Manager and Salesman
Rating: C+
Jo visits with her dogs and orders either Jim or Michael to step down from their post, but both want the demotion once they realise a salesman can potentially earn more.
Andy also tries to send a valentines card to Erin, but accidentally gets Kelly’s attention instead.
16 – Secretary’s Day
Rating: C+
“Secretary’s Day” has a plotline that I really like and one that I really hate.
Gabe trying to put his foot down over the Kevin Cookie Monster video is one of the strongest premises of the season, but Erin freaking out when Michael mentions Andy and Angela’s previous engagement is way too big of an overreaction. You can tell the writers just needed an excuse to kickstart the will they / won’t they all over again.
15 – Whistleblower
Rating: C+
On par with “Hot Girl” from Season 1 for weakest Office finale so far.
Sabre’s printer fires have hit the press and Andy becomes a prime suspect, although everyone blames each other at one point.
The only two positives are the tease of Holly’s return and the glorious IT Guy rant where he exposes everyone’s secrets.
14 – Body Language
Rating: C+
Michael isn’t sure whether Donna is flirting or just wants an easy discount, so he uses every trick in the book to win her over – the subliminal presentation is a personal favourite.
Dwight also enters Kelly into an executive program in order to gain more influence for himself, but I don’t like that plotline as much.
13 – New Leads
Rating: C+
The sales team start getting arrogant, so Michael hides their “New Leads” in a sort of treasure hunt.
I like the pettiness and in-fighting, and a treasure hunt is a classic Michael scheme, but there aren’t as many jokes as I wanted.
12 – The Meeting
Rating: C+
Jim meets with David Wallace in secret, and Michael starts to panic. The reveal that Jim has been promoted to co-manager is fairly exciting, but it takes a while to get there.
The B-plot of Darryl having an injury and Toby confusing him for his sister is much funnier, and reaffirms Toby as an unsung hero in the cast.
11 – Murder
Rating: C+
To distract his employees from the Dunder Mifflin bankruptcy, Michael does the most Michael Scott thing imaginable and sets up a murder mystery game.
Dwight’s self-karate, Creed’s panic and the final “shootout” are the three best scenes, but the rest of “Murder” is a bit boring.
10 – Gossip
Rating: B-
Not necessarily the best season opener in the world, but “Gossip” has enough going for it that I enjoyed myself.
The parkour cold open is great, the interns are a fun one-off cast, and the various rumours after Stanley’s affair was a clever way to reveal Pam’s pregnancy.
9 – Double Date
Rating: B-
Dwight and Andy have a feud to see who’s the nicest … but that’s hardly what this episode is known for.
Michael dumping Pam’s mum after discovering her age is suitably cringy, and he earns a well-deserved slap from Pam for his troubles.
8 – Secret Santa
Rating: B-
Michael refuses to acknowledge Phyllis as Santa, and so does everything in his power to usurp her.
Andy also gives Erin the twelve days of Christmas as a gift, Oscar crushes on a warehouse guy, and Dunder Mifflin finds a buyer.
7 – Shareholder Meeting
Rating: B
I love the Recyclops cold open and how they flashed-back to multiple eras of the office, and the rest of “Shareholder Meeting” is really solid too.
Michael’s antics when he gives empty promises to the room full of Dunder Mifflin shareholders is hilarious, and Jim giving Ryan a terrible desk is the kind of petty revenge I love to see.
6 – Scott’s Tots
Rating: B
A.K.A. The cringiest episode in TV history.
On top of the iconic scene in “Scott’s Tots”, the sub-plot of Dwight trying to get Jim fired through a rigged employee of the month scheme is great too.
5 – The Lover
Rating: B
Michael revealing to Pam that he’s dating her mother is easily one of the funniest scenes of Season 6, and the fallout is glorious.
I also really enjoyed the subplot of Dwight bugging Jim’s office, so “The Lover” is a solid episode all-round.
4 – The Chump
Rating: B
The cold open birthed one of the most quotable lines in the show – “I’d shoot Toby twice!” – and the rest of “The Chump” doesn’t let up.
Michael is still seeing Donna even though the whole office thinks he shouldn’t., Jim and Pam are struggling to sleep, and Dwight and Angela have a really funny contract dispute.
3 – Happy Hour
Rating: B
Date Mike is easily one of my favourite Michael Scott personas – Steve Carell’s mannerisms are so funny, and his hapless flirting is amazing.
Michael ends up flirting with the bar’s manager Donna, Andy and Erin reveal their secret relationship, Dwight is torn between Pam’s sister and Angela, and Kevin acts like a baby to “stimulate growth”.
2 – The Delivery
Rating: B+
“The Delivery” is the kind of episode that every sitcom has at one point, and yet The Office still managed to make it unique.
Dwight and Angela want their own baby so write a contract, Dwight fixes up Jim and Pam’s house, and Andy finally asks Erin out. If it wasn’t for Part One being so drawn-out with Pam wanting a delay, this could’ve been A-tier.
1 – Niagara
Rating: A
Both of my top two episodes in Season 6 revolve around key moments in the Jim / Pam relationship, but “Niagara” takes the cake for how heart-warming it ends up being.
Andy gets a bad injury and flirts with Erin, Jim accidentally reveals the pregnancy to Pam’s family, Michael hooks up with Pam’s mum, and the mental pictures / office dance / waterfall wedding make this one of the most feel-good TV episodes ever.
Season Rating: C
As much as I hate to say it, The Office is starting to get stale. This was easily the weakest season since the first … and I’m not holding out hope for the rest of the series.
Here are the stats for the season:
- 1A (4%)
- 9B (38%)
- 13C (54%)
- 1D (4%)
With 58% of episodes being C-tier or lower, it’s no surprise why I don’t rate Season 6 that highly.
And here’s the stats for the series so far:
- 10A (9%)
- 64B (56%)
- 39C (34%)
- 1D (1%)

“The House in Fata Morgana” – Every Character Ranked
I waxed lyrical about “The House in Fata Morgana” when I ranked its Doors, and now I’m desperate to rank its characters. This story has done nothing but occupy my mind ever since I finished it. I can’t rank every named character in the story as some of them are just “Man” and “Man 2”,…
Ace Attorney Deep Dive: “Turnabout Revolution” (Spirit Of Justice – Case 5)
It all comes down to this – after four cases of Defiant Dragons teasing, it’s finally time for Dhurke and his crew to take centre stage in “Turnabout Revolution”. Can “Spirit Of Justice” end with a bang? I’ll be deconstructing the case in ten distinct categories and giving a score out of ten for each.…
