New season, new voice actors – a lot of people were ready to scrutinise Season 7 of Rick and Morty after all of the controversies, but in the end I think this was a season to be proud of. But it wasn’t without its faults … how would I rank every episode?
Before we begin, you can check out some of my related blog posts below:
10 – Rise of the Numbericons
Rating: D-
“Rise of the Numbericons” is a sequel nobody asked for.
The letters-numbers war is boring, Morty and his Math teacher Mr. Goldenfold are an unfunny combo, and the jokes don’t land. The pacing of the episode is also way too fast!
9 – How Poopy Got His Poop Back
Rating: C-
I paid close attention to the voice acting in the season opener, and I found the new voices to be indistinguishable from the old ones. The praise for “How Poopy Got His Poop Back” runs out there.
The friend group dynamic is sweet, I suppose, but the bizarre plot and Hugh Jackman cameo didn’t work for me.
8 – That’s Amorte
Rating: C
Like with “Analyze Piss” from Season 6, “That’s Amorte” is a fan-favourite episode from the latest season that I just couldn’t get behind.
The suicide = spaghetti was way too odd and tasteless (ironically) for me, and the life montage at the end felt like a cheap tug at the heartstrings at the eleventh hour.
7 – The Jerrick Trap
Rating: C+
An argument leads to Jerry and Rick trying to swap brains, but an accident melds their brains together instead. Already an intriguing premise ripe for comedy.
I liked the character dynamic between the new Rick and Jerry, but their final form “Jerricky” was too weird for me.
6 – Air Force Wong
Rating: B-
Reviews seemed to be mixed on “Air Force Wong”, but I liked what it was going for.
Unity taking over Virginia was a great return for a classic character, and the president’s attempts to woo therapist Wong were funny.
5 – Wet Kuat Amortican Summer
Rating: B-
At first I thought “Wet Kuat Amortican Summer” was going to be about videogame stat boosting. I should know by now that plot isn’t weird enough for a Rick and Morty episode.
A pool accident sees Morty and Summer fuse together, leading to a Kuato conspiracy and a society of psychic mutants.
4 – Rickfending Your Mort
Rating: B
“Rickfending Your Mort” is a glorified clip show episode akin to “Morty’s Mind Blowers”, but I thought it worked really well.
The observers were a great, natural way to show the funny scenarios, and the observer trial was a fun second-half subversion.
3 – Mort: Ragnarick
Rating: B+
The stupidest episode of the season. I loved it.
“Mort: Ragnarick” has valhalla, the pope and bigfoot. What more could you want?
2 – Fear No Mort
Rating: A-
A lot of recent Rick and Morty finales have tried going too big or shoe-horning major plot developments, but “Fear No Mort” focused on telling a concise, compelling character study.
The fear hole is a concept ripe for drama and humour, Diane’s “return” genuinely shocked me, and the twist ending was a highlight of the season.
1 – Unmortricken
Rating: A
“Unmortricken”, a harmless mid-season episode, had no right to be this good.
Evil Morty returns, Rick manages to track down and kill Rick Prime, and the action is immense. A non-finale episode better than most finales!
Season Rating: B
On the whole, Season 7 was pretty good. Nowhere near as bad as the worst seasons and episodes, but not quite up there with the best either. Still, I had a fun time!

Top 20 Videogame Performances Of All Time
There was a time roughly two decades ago when videogame acting was considered a “lesser” acting medium. Audiences played the games and enjoyed the silly voices, but you hardly ever experienced a performance worth appreciating or awarding. But near the end of the 2000’s, when performance capture was taking off and videogame writing began improving…
Every “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” Area Ranked
I recently replayed “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” for the third time, and it was just as awesome as the first and second. I made an effort on this playthrough to explore every corner of every area … and some areas were definitely better than others. I’m going to rank every “substantial” area in the game,…
Great Ace Attorney Deep Dive: “The Adventure of the Unbreakable Speckled Band” (Case 1-2)
After successfully defending himself in Japanese court, Ryunosuke joins Kazuma and Susato on their trip to Great Britain. I’m sure nothing will go horribly wrong … the worst possible scenario would be if “The Adventure of the Unbreakable Speckled Band” didn’t have a Trial! How crazy would that be?!? I’ll be deconstructing the case in…
