I’ve always liked Meat Loaf and his bombastic approach to Rock music, but for some reason recently I can’t get his “Bat Out Of Hell” era out of my head.
It has some banger songs … as well as some forgettable ones. How would I rank them all?

OK
7 – All Revved Up with No Place to Go
“All Revved Up with No Place to Go” starts strong with a saxophone and a steady rhythm, but it plays out a little too safe for my liking.
The vocal performance is great but it ends up being the least memorable song on the album.
6 – For Crying Out Loud
The final song on the album opts to go for a near nine-minute epic … and I don’t think it quite nails the mark.
It’s very dramatic and grand, that’s for sure, but “For Crying Out Loud” pales in comparison to the other showstoppers on the album.
Good
5 – Heaven Can Wait
A tender, much slower song to kill the pace of a breakneck album. I don’t hate it.
The piano playing is superb … but yeah, it’s not exactly an Operatic Rock masterpiece.
4 – Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad
I’m sure I’ll get flack for this, as “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” is one of the most popular songs on the album, but to me it’s just “Good”.
It’s a decent ballad. Nothing more to add, really.
Great
3 – You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)
This ballad, however, packs much more of a punch.
“You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth” may be 70’s cheese but it has a chorus that’ll get stuck in your head for days.
All-Time Great
2 – Bat Out of Hell
There are two absolutely sensational Rock tunes on “Bat Out of Hell”, and I had a really tough time picking a favourite of the two. In the end, I gave the silver medal to the title track.
I love the extended intro, the lyrics are fantastic, and that chorus makes you want to speed down a highway at 100mph. The only thing holding it back is the extended outro – not as impactful as the first seven minutes.
1 – Paradise By the Dashboard Light
I don’t think “Paradise By the Dashboard Lights” gets enough credit as one of the best duets of all time.
It has everything I like about the title track – great lyrics, immense instrumentals and a flair for the dramatic – but with distinct sections that are entertaining from start to finish. A true Rock masterpiece.

Top 10 Albums of the 1990’s
I’ve recently been going through every year in music for my thorough retrospectives, and as such I’ve been exposed to some fantastic albums. I wanted to talk about some of my favourites – this time looking at the 1990’s. I reviewed fifty albums as part of that decade’s retrospectives (five per year), all of which…
1/10 to 10/10 – Muse Songs
I recently watched a video of a man naming animes from 1/10 through to 10/10 in quality, and I enjoyed the format so much that I decided to steal it for my blog. I talked about my definitive one-through-tens for Ace Attorney cases, and now I’ll be looking at Muse songs in honour of their…
World Cup 2026 – My Predictions
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching … and I have a feeling it might be the worst one yet. Many factors, like political unrest and the fact there’s 48 teams instead of 32 (making the schedule quite bloated) may land this tournament a place in football infamy. That being said, people were worried…
