“Game Changer” remains one of the best shows money can buy – its seventh and most recent season was fantastic yet again, with some of the episodes being among my all-time favourites.
As always, some episodes were more exciting than others. How would I rank all ten (or is it?) episodes from the season?
Before we begin, you can check out some of my related blog posts below:
Good
11 – Fool’s Gold
There were no bad (or even sub-par) episodes this year – Season 7 was the most consistent one yet. You can tell the creators have started honing in on what works and what doesn’t.
My least favourite episode, however, was definitely “Fool’s Gold” as it was the one I zoned out of the most.
Some of the individual parts were funny, like Katie’s and Vic’s pitches, but on the whole it was quite a slow format that seemed more fun to participate in than watch.
Also, when the episode first aired we didn’t know who won. This is quite a cool concept on paper, but it’s anti-climactic on first viewing.
10 – Outvoted
The season finale was a spectacle, that’s for sure, but the theme of a political debate wasn’t for me.
“Outvoted” had great candidates and funny moments … but it needed more stakes for winning. Is the winner going to be honorary president of Dropout from now on? Was it all for nothing? Time will tell, I suppose.
9 – One and Done
On paper, “One and Done” is quite boring. The idea of nailing a prompt first time pretty much applies to any Dropout gameshow.
Credit where credit is due – the contestants and the prompts themselves turned what could’ve been a mundane episode into an entertaining one.
8 – Earnest-est
Like how “One and Done” is an underwhelming premise, the idea of three comedians aiming to be utterly sincere seems counterproductive. It’s like they designed “Earnest-est” to be as un-funny as possible.
Luckily yet again, the contestants and prompts really shined. Lisa, Ally and Zac were probably the best three possible participants for this idea.
Great
7 – You-lympics
It was an inspired choice to cast Brennan in a Game Changer episode where he had to compete against himself.
The mid-point twist that the contestants had to compete against themselves yet again was the icing on the cake.
6 – Who Wants To Be Jacob Wysocki?
I can absolutely understand why some people see this as the weakest episode of the season – it’s less of a Game Changer episode and more of a tribute to one of Dropout’s best performers.
I love Jacob, so a whole gameshow dedicated to him – where we can see him win lots of money real-time – was exactly the kind of positivity I needed.
5 – The Drinking Game
MAJOR SPOILERS – the main reason “The Drinking Game” is ranked so high on this list is the final twist. The reveal that everyone was sober was definitely one of the highlights of the season.
Everyone did such a fantastic job of acting drunk, and the energy was chaotic throughout.
Amazing
4 – Samalamadingdong
Welp … this is awkward. When I first published this ranking, “Samalamadingdong” – the secret bonus episode – hadn’t been released yet and we had no idea it was coming. I’m now having to retroactively add it to the list after finishing the episode.
It’s an amazing, crowd-pleasing episode where Sam finally gets his comeuppance after almost a decade of devious game design.
3 – Crowd Control
There are some Game Changer episodes that demand a sequel or a series of its own, and “Crowd Control” was one of those episodes.
The three comedians did a fantastic job of dodging a minefield of audience members – even when the “red flags” were introduced things only managed to get funnier.
2 – Rulette
Speaking of episodes that deserve a sequel, I may riot if we never see “Rulette” return in some capacity.
They picked the three best contestants for such a chaotic game idea, and the twist at the end where Sam became a contestant made this one of the best Game Changer episodes ever.
1 – One Year Later
Sam put Vic, Lou and Jacob through hilarious torment for “Sam Says 3”, and it’s even funnier in hindsight knowing they were tasked with completing challenges for “One Year Later” immediately after that episode wrapped.
Every player brought their A-game for every challenge. Rarely has a Game Changer episode been such a riot from start to finish – it even ended on a perfect note with the players rebelling against Sam by choosing friendship over points.
Honestly, “One Year Later” has a good shout at being the best Game Changer episode yet. Here’s to many more bangers!
Aaaand that’s my list! You can check out some of my latest blog posts below:
Every “Hannibal” Episode Ranked
It’s been a few years since I finished “Hannibal”, and a couple of years since my re-watch. Even now, looking back on the series as an older and wiser man, I still consider it one of my favourite shows I’ve seen. I ranked the seasons a while ago (a short list considering there’s only three!),…
Top 10 Albums of the 1960’s
I’ve recently been going through every year in music for my thorough retrospectives, and as such I’ve been exposed to some fantastic albums. I wanted to talk about some of my favourites – for this first edition, I’ll be looking at the 1960’s. I reviewed fifty albums as part of that decade’s retrospectives (five per…
2020: The Year In Music

George Floyd’s death at the hands of a US police officer sparks the “Black Lives Matter” protests. The Beirut port explosion kills 200 and injures thousands. And, in (hopefully) some…
