Sunny seems to be on a hot streak at the moment – Seasons 13 and 14 were sub-par by their standards, but in my opinion each season since then has been better than the last.
I binged every episode of Season 17 as soon as they were available, and I had a lot of fun … but how would I rank the episodes?

OK
8 – The Gang F***s Up Abbott Elementary
Confession time – I’ve never seen an episode of Abbott Elementary. You can imagine how lost I was while watching “The Gang F***s Up Abbott Elementary”.
It’s a weak season opener in regards to how it has nothing to do with the Sunny we know and love. There were funny moments, like the 9/11 conversation, but this was definitely the weakest episode of the season by a wide margin.
7 – Overage Drinking: A National Concern
It’s wild that the showrunners can make a sequel to “Underage Drinking” from Season 1 about them being too old … and shooting it two decades after the first, so they actually are quite old now.
Mac and Charlie investigate Frank’s disappearance in one of the most tedious sub-plots of the season. Dee and Dennis, however, have some good moments when reconnecting with their past prom dates. Not a bad episode at all, but I was a bit bored.
Good
6 – Thought Leadership: A Corporate Conversation
Like how I haven’t seen Abbott Elementary, I also haven’t watched Succession – which is what I think “Thought Leadership: A Corporate Conversation” is spoofing. Maybe.
It’s still a good episode in its own right. The gang shirking blame to each other is one of the best recurring Sunny premises, and everyone’s sudden outrage when Dee reveals her true thoughts on the Cybertruck made me laugh out loud.
Great
5 – The Gang Goes to a Dog Track
The remaining five episodes were all fantastic installments in the Sunny canon. We ate good this year, Sunny fans.
Dennis and Dee degrade themselves for money, and Charlie and Mac try to find the rawest dog. The ending of “The Gang Goes to a Dog Track” with the burning caravan still lives rent-free in my mind.
4 – The Golden Bachelor Live
Any Frank-centric episode, especially one as climactic as “The Golden Bachelor Live”, will always serve up the laughs.
Danny DeVito is on top form throughout, and the romantic subplot was genuinely endearing. Oh, and the gang turning into mutant-like abominations was extremely funny.
3 – The Gang Gets Ready for Prime Time
Many people have “The Gang Gets Ready for Prime Time” as their favourite of the season, and I can absolutely see why.
It’s a chance for every member of the gang to shine, and the focus group setting is the perfect place for everyone to have a public breakdown one way or another – especially Dennis, who gives one of the best Sunny monologues ever.
2 – Frank is in a Coma
The Abbott Elementary season opener had me a little worried for a minute, but the second episode “Frank is in a Coma” immediately assured me that this would be a season for the ages.
Frank pranks everyone with cake, Dee goes through all the stages of grief, and the guys meet a potential business partner – Alex Wolff gives one of the best guest star performances in Sunny history.
Amazing
1 – Mac and Dennis Become EMTs
“The Gang Gets Ready for Prime Time” and “Frank is in a Coma” are two superb episodes that may become classics in time, but from the moment I started “Mac and Dennis Become EMTs” I knew I was watching peak Sunny.
Everyone is at their best here – Mac and Dennis breaking the law, Dee and Charlie running a ghost kitchen, and Frank trying to get back at the Lawyer are all fantastic plots. It all culminates in one of the most batshit insane Sunny finales ever.
This is the Sunny fans crave – chaotic, smart, and filled with so many jokes you don’t have time to breathe.
Aaaand that’s my list! You can check out some of my latest blog posts below:
Shadow Of The Erdtree (Elden Ring DLC) Areas Ranked
I recently ranked the “Elden Ring” (base game) areas based on their content, fun, aesthetic and replayability, and now I’ll do exactly the same thing for the ginormous DLC. I’ve played through the “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC twice now, and both times I was blown away by the world design and the beauty of…
2025: The Year In Music
2025 – Cardinal Robert Prevost becomes Pope Leo XIV, the first North American pope. 17-year-old English darts prodigy Luke Littler becomes the younger ever world champion. SNL celebrates its fiftieth year on air. Lady Gaga performs at Copacabana Beach in Brazil to a crowd estimated at 2.5 million attendees, the largest concert in history for…
About Me: Video Games
I’m hopping on a recent trend for this one – I’ve seen some people fill out an “About Me” grid for their favourite videogames, talking about the best soundtrack, favourite protagonist, most underrated game etc. I want to give these twenty questions a go (based on my personal tastes, of course), but I’ve given myself…
