“Steel Ball Run” is well and truly underway, which means I’ve succumbed to JoJo’s fever once again. Thanks to an anonymous submission, I got to thinking – what are the best opening songs this series has put out?
“JoJo’s” has some of the greatest OPs in all of anime (from the few I’ve heard, anyway), so this’ll be tough to rank. Keep in mind that I’m not an anime afficionado, so my opinion will no doubt vary to yours. I’m also focusing more on audio rather than visuals, but the animation quality will no doubt play a role. Let’s get to it!

Meh
12 – Chase (Diamond Is Unbreakable 2)
I don’t really go out of my way to listen to anime OPs … mostly because a lot of them sound like “Chase”.
It’s a Hard Rock, very choppy song with fast-paced scene transitions. I dunno what it is, but I’ve never liked the Rock music that Japan puts out. It usually feels like a parody of western Rock music.
Okay
11 – Traitor’s Requiem (Golden Wind 2)
It doesn’t help that this OP starts with twenty-three seconds of build-up. Just launch straight into the action! These OPs are supposed to hype us up for the episode to come!
Once “Traitor’s Requiem” gets going, it’s fine. One thing that’s common in this series is for the second OP to be inferior to the first, and this one is no exception – it lacks the punch and energy of “Fighting Gold”.
10 – Sono Chi No Sadame (Phantom Blood)
Maybe this is a hot take, but I found “Phantom Blood’s” OP to be just Okay. Not bad by any means, but a little generic and uninspiring.
The first ten seconds are my favourite part because they’re an explosion of sound and energy, but the rest blends together. It also doesn’t help that this is visually one of my least favourite OPs – it’s just a series of shots of Dio and Jonathan in the Joestar mansion. In other words, like “Phantom Blood” itself, it lacks scope.
Good
9 – Great Days (Diamond Is Unbreakable 3)
I would’ve bet good money on this being called “Breakdown”, which goes to show how much of a fake JoJo’s fan I am.
“Diamond Is Unbreakable” is spoiled for OPs, having three distinct openers. “Great Days” is an improvement on “Chase” but it’s still one of the more forgettable JoJo’s openings.
This isn’t as dramatic as other JoJo’s openings, but I’m a sucker for how cheesy “Great Days” is. It’s a bit like an old-school sitcom with how it sounds and is presented. “Let the voice of love take you higher” is a line that always puts a smile on my face – it’s got nothing to do with this show’s themes at all!
8 – End of the World (Stardust Crusaders 2)
Unlike “Traitor’s Requiem”, the build-up to the drop in “End of the World” is actually quite hype.
Once the song starts properly it becomes a bit too melodramatic and Rock-y for my tastes, but I can’t deny that it put me into the right frame of mind for the action to come.
I should also mention the variants of OPs we sometimes got in the finale episodes. In the final use of “End of the World”, for example, Dio stops time – and the song itself – for a few seconds. A cool detail, but I’m not including these deviations in my overall appraisal of the OPs.
7 – Heaven’s Falling Down (Stone Ocean 2)
Of the second OPs in each part, Stone Ocean’s “Heaven Falling Down” is my favourite. By quite a margin, I might add.
It’s one of the most inherently catchy OPs in JoJo’s, and like “End of the World” it made me hyped for the last few acts. Not as punchy as the “main” OPs, but still a banger.
Great
6 – Spin (Steel Ball Run)
It’s still early doors, so “Spin” hasn’t had the time to settle like the other OPs have had, but it immediately feels like a classic opener.
I’m a big fan of that slap bass to begin with, and the rest of the song goes for an adventurous, gallivanting style. Very catchy.
5 – Stand Proud (Stardust Crusaders 1)
“Stand Proud” is big, brash, and a little ridiculous with how heavy it is. It’s so cliché that it comes back around to being awesome.
“Stardust Crusaders” is a story of a bunch of men doing men stuff, so it makes sense that its OP is a testosterone-fueled fever dream.
4 – Stone Ocean (Stone Ocean 1)
I’m not ranking these on animation, but if I was then “Stone Ocean” would be number one. Those colourful visuals and dynamic 3D spaces are so cool!
This OP sounds like a spiritual, girl-boss successor to “Stand Proud”. Which makes sense given Jolyne’s heritage.
3 – Fighting Gold (Golden Wind 1)
“Fighting Gold” is a hell of an opening statement – the drum crashes, the big chords and the sweet synth hooks are probably my favourite first few seconds of a JoJo’s OP.
The rest of the OP is great too. The title-drop is always given the oomph it deserves, and the violin flourishes lend the track a sense of grandeur.
Amazing
2 – Bloody Stream (Battle Tendency)
I don’t know how the JoJo’s fandom would rank the OPs … other than the fact “Bloody Stream” is widely considered the best of the franchise. It’s not hard to see why.
That opening trumpet riff is an instant earworm, but what takes this OP up a level is its chorus. Something about its bouncy and playful nature has made it arguably the catchiest JoJo’s OP of them all.
1 – Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town (Diamond Is Unbreakable 1)
I’m a “Diamond Is Unbreakable” fanboy, and I consider everything about that Part to be gold. From the moment I first heard its OP “Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town” I knew I was in for a treat.
Instead of going for heavy Rock riffs or hype drum beats / drops, this OP goes for pure fun. It’s a party in Morioh, and the peppy visuals combined with the upbeat music makes the OP sound like an intro to a small-town sitcom. Which fits the Part’s tone perfectly!

“Staffer Retro” – Every Act Ranked
After playing “Staffer Case” a few years ago, I eagerly anticipated Team Tetrapod’s follow-up “Staffer Retro”. Now that it’s out and I’ve played it, is it a worthy sequel? Kinda. It has its moments, that’s for sure. I’m going to rank all five cases or “Acts” in the game, and be warned – there will…
Top 20 Best (& 10 Worst) Jokes From “Airplane!”
Shockingly, I hadn’t watched the 1980 comedy “Airplane!” until a few days ago. It’s a classic. No surprises there. I was immensely impressed by the thick-and-fast jokes, as well as the high quality of a lot of them … but some of them didn’t tickle me in the same way. I was inspired by Medium’s…
EVERY “Game Changer” Episode Ranked (Including Season 8)
Back in 2023, when I first tumbled down the Dropout rabbit hole, I watched a little show called “Game Changer” and immediately fell in love. This quirky show, where the premise changes every episode, instantly became one of my favourite series. I even excitedly ranked every episode up until Season 5 … but that list…
I think SBRs opening is in a fair placement and it’s a solid opening. It’s a shame the ending theme didn’t use licensed music.

I don’t hate SBR’s ending theme as much as other fans, but you’re right – it doesn’t pack the same punch that the licensed music in other Parts did. I would’ve loved “Survival” by Muse … maybe they’ll go for a licensed song later in the series.
