“Rick and Morty” – All Four Schwifty Seasons Ranked

I’m not really a cartoon person, but my goodness is Rick and Morty a great Sci-Fi comedy – I’d even go as far as saying it’s one of my favourite television shows of all time. The storylines are as ridiculous as they are clever and entertaining, and there are some great character moments that you wouldn’t expect to see from a simple cartoon show. How would I rank all four seasons of the show?

I’ve ranked some other show’s seasons here:

Amazing

4 – Season 4

Maybe it’s because it only just aired and I haven’t had enough time to let the episodes sink in, but I think season 4 is my least favourite season of the show. That’s not to say it isn’t good – in fact, it’s pretty darn amazing.

There are some great episodes in this, like “Rattlestar Ricklactica” and the opener “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat”, but the best episode has to be the utterly ridiculous but insanely clever “The Vat of Acid Episode”.

Part of the reason this is my least favourite season is because it contains an absolute stinker and the worst in the show’s run – “Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim’s Morty” is an extremely unfunny piece of television that I never hope to watch again.

  • Best Episode – The Vat of Acid Episode
  • Worst Episode – Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim’s Morty

3 – Season 1

The season that started it all, and there aren’t many pilot seasons of a show better than this one.

A lot of the episodes have become classics, like “Meeseeks and Destroy” and the origin of interdimensional cable “Rixty Minutes”. I’ll always remember watching “Rick Potion #9” and seeing what a Sci-Fi Comedy show could actually accomplish – it was absolutely mind-blowing.

  • Best Episode – Rick Potion #9
  • Worst Episode – Raising Gazorpazorp

2 – Season 3

Oops this is a promotional photo of season 1, oh well

At the time I wasn’t sure if this season lived up to the quality of the previous two seasons, but when I looked at the list of episodes I knew this was nothing short of a sensational season.

Other than “The Rickchurian Mortydate” (did anyone else find that finale disappointing?) and possibly “Vindicators 3: Return of Worldender”, every episode here is a stand-out.

I really liked the substitute for interdimensional cable “Morty’s Mind Blowers”, and even episodes like “The ABC’s of Beth” have great character moments. The obvious contenders for best episode are “Pickle Rick” and “The Ricklantis Mixup”, but I think I’ll give it to the latter for being an incredible insight into society as a whole.

  • Best Episode – The Ricklantis Mixup
  • Worst Episode – The Rickchurian Mortydate

All-Time Great

1 – Season 2

There are just too many iconic episodes in this, so it has to be an “All-Time Great” season of television.

The sequel to interdimensional cable was a bit disappointing, but otherwise you’re looking at some of the best episodes in the show’s entire run – “Mortynight Run”, “The Ricks Must Be Crazy” and “The Wedding Squanchers” are all phenomenal, but I absolutely love “Total Rickall” for how bonkers it ends up being.

  • Best episode – Total Rickall
  • Worst Episode – Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate

Aaaand that’s my list. I think I’ll be doing an episode-by-episode ranking for this like I did with Breaking Bad, so stay tuned for that. For now, you should check out some of my latest posts:

Shadow Of The Erdtree (Elden Ring DLC) Areas Ranked

I recently ranked the “Elden Ring” (base game) areas based on their content, fun, aesthetic and replayability, and now I’ll do exactly the same thing for the ginormous DLC. I’ve played through the “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC twice now, and both times I was blown away by the world design and the beauty of…

2025 – Cardinal Robert Prevost becomes Pope Leo XIV, the first North American pope. 17-year-old English darts prodigy Luke Littler becomes the younger ever world champion. About Me: Video Games

I’m hopping on a recent trend for this one – I’ve seen some people fill out an “About Me” grid for their favourite videogames, talking about the best soundtrack, favourite protagonist, most underrated game etc. I want to give these twenty questions a go (based on my personal tastes, of course), but I’ve given myself…
